Shatter Brain launched in January 2018, releasing a four-song demo that was mastered by Joel Grind (Toxic Holocaust, Power Trip, Cavalera Conspiracy). The release was accompanied by a video clip for the debut single “Rip the Stitch” (https://youtu.be/rT0hoiV1AsU), and was supported by an Australian & New Zealand Tour between Feb and April. This tour culminated with a debut home town show in front of over 650 punters at the annual Heavy SA Festival. Bootleg footage from this tour is documented in the music video for the band’s second single “Discard” (https://youtu.be/OfDZV_-_Fak). The band then commenced the "Rip the Stitch Asia Tour" in June/July. This tour included three shows in Taiwan, including a headlining performance at Wake Up Fest in Chiayi, and shows in Thailand and Malaysia as main support for Brazilian crossover-thrash legends R.D.P. (Ratos de Porão).
Upon returning to Australia, Shatter Brain released a split vinyl EP (aptly titled “The Twelve Inch Split”) with Melbourne band Blunt Shovel in early August and embarked on another tour with King Parrot and Blunt Shovel. The Twelve Inch Split featured two new Shatter Brain songs and a cover of the Mastodon classic “Blood and Thunder”. The release of the split was accompanied by a music video for the opening track “The Ship That Never Sinks” which featured footage of the band performing the song at Heavy SA earlier that year (https://youtu.be/yQWzjiyK1c4). 2018 also saw Shatter Brain supporting Power Trip (USA) on the Adelaide date of their Australian tour.
Shatter Brain began 2019 with a tour of Japan and returned to Australia to open for Max and Iggor Cavalera’s (Sepultura) “Return to Beneath the Arise” tour, during which Tom joined Max on stage to sing a rendition of AC/DCs “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap”. In July/August, Shatter Brain entered the studio to record their debut album 'Pitchfork Justice' with Jimmy Balderston at Ghostnote Recording Studios (Scott Kelly, Sumeru, Space Bong). The band rounded out the year by supporting New Orleans sludge legends Eyehategod (USA) in November.
The band started 2020 by supporting punk-metal legends Integrity, and released 'Pitchfork Justice' via Wormhole Death Records/Aural Music on May 1st 2020. A run of shows to support the album, commencing with the opening slot for Carcass, was derailed by a global pandemic. Instead, the band used this time to write and record three new songs for a split EP that was released by Australia's premiere underground label Disdain Records. Managing to navigate the ever-changing Australian COVID lockdowns, Shatter Brain managed to execute an East Coast tour in support of their two previous releases, including performances at the iconic Froth and Fury Festival in Adelaide and Flippin' The Bird Fest in Frankston, Victoria, and culminating in the support slot for Heathen (USA) at The Gov in October 2022.
2023 sees Shatter Brain still doin it and coming to a stage near you! FJH.
